When a telehealth membership is worth it vs manufacturer direct

Manufacturer direct pharmacies (LillyDirect, NovoCare, and peers) exist so patients with a valid prescription can pay cash for certain brand products at published prices.

A telehealth membership is something else. You’re paying for physician access: eligibility, titration, side-effect management, labs, and — in a lifestyle practice — room for sexual health or hair on the same chart.

People compare the membership fee to the med price and conclude the fee is a scam. Sometimes the fee is fluff. Sometimes you’re comparing a fill shop to a practice.

Two different products

Fulfillment: pharmacy ships the med you were prescribed. Care: a physician decides if you should be on it, at what dose, whether to hold, and what else on your problem list matters.

You can have care without that pharmacy. You can have that pharmacy without ongoing obesity-aware care. Mixing the invoices is how the internet gets loud.

When manufacturer direct is enough

Direct can be enough when:

• You already have a trusted local physician managing the prescription
• You only need fulfillment and price transparency on the med
• Follow-up is already happening in that office
• You’re not looking for a second vertical (sexual health, hair) in the same relationship

If that’s you, use Direct. I’m not going to talk you out of a setup that already works.

When membership earns its fee

Membership is doing real work when you need:

• A physician review of whether pharmacologic weight care fits you at all
• Dose changes and side-effect troubleshooting without a six-week wait
• Labs and a chart that stays open
• Weight plus sexual health or hair without three new logins
• No local physician who will manage this

Then the fee is for access, not for the vial.
